The Grail!

The legend of the Holy Grail, rooted in Arthurian lore, tells of Knight Perceval as the first to encounter the Grail – an ornately decorated cup, dish, or stone, housed in the hidden Grail Castle, used to sustain the life of the Fisher King’s wounded father. This mystical object became simply known as the Grail. Today, the quest for Grails represents the pursuit of everlasting life and love, a symbol of the passion and creativity embodied by the members of the Krewe of King Arthur.

Handmade grails

New Orleanians take pride in creating unique, hand-crafted throws for parade-goers. In 2016, after much discussion and a few glasses of wine, Krewe members Kelly Trainor and Stephanie Canepa came up with the idea for personalized, hand-decorated Grails. In 2017, these one-of-a-kind Grails debuted in the Krewe of King Arthur’s parade, initially available only from the Title float. These small works of art quickly became highly collectible. Now, each Krewe member has the opportunity to decorate and distribute 24 of their own Grails, allowing their personal creativity and love for Carnival to shine. While all members start with the same blank Grail canvas, no two Grails are ever alike.

To celebrate this tradition, we’ve created a Facebook page called “Krewe of King Arthur’s Grail Tracker.” You can view photos of lucky recipients and their Grails by tagging @kreweofkingarthursgrailtracker and using the hashtag #gotagrail on Facebook at www.facebook.com/gotagrail. Be sure to like and follow the “Got a Grail” page to see more of these unique creations!
